Central Area Loop Study begins looking at a regional downtown
connector.
1 February 2000
The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments' (OKI)
Central Area Loop Study Committee (CALSC) has begun meeting to determine the
preferred technology to link Cincinnati, Covington and Newport. The CALSC,
which is a separate group from the Sky Loop Committee, is conducting this Major
Investment Study (MIS) considering many technologies that may provide the
connector needed for our riverfront and downtowns. The technologies under
consideration include the Sky Loop, street railways, light rail technology, the
Southbank Shuttle, expanded bus service, and others. The Sky Loop Committee
worked very hard for several months, along with OKI, Southbank Partners,
Covington and Newport, to get this study funded and under way. Chip Tappan and
Bill Scheyer represent the Sky Loop Committee on the CALSC.
