Raytheon Agrees to Release Taxi 2000
19 January 2000
Quoting from a news release of the Taxi 2000 Corporation: (Ref:
http://www.taxi2000.com/news/2000-01-18-raytheon.htm)
"After extensive negotiations, Raytheon Company has agreed to grant
Taxi 2000 Corporation, a Minnesota Corporation, full freedom to pursue, in any
and all ways, the promotion, development and marketing of its Personal Rapid
Transit (PRT) system, Taxi 2000 (www.taxi2000.com), independent of Raytheon. Taxi 2000
Corporation was founded at the University of Minnesota and the University owns
its technology.
"It is expected that this new agreement will greatly enhance the
efforts of the Taxi 2000 Corporation to fund the establishment of a team to
design and plan for a demonstration system. The assembled multi-disciplinary
team will provide the combined capability to design, develop, manufacture,
construct, and test system components and a prototype demonstrator based on the
Taxi 2000 personal rapid transit (PRT) system design."
The Taxi 2000 PRT system is the Sky Loop Committee's primary
selected technology for our project. The successful completion of a Taxi 2000
PRT system prototype development program is a necessary step in order for the
Sky Loop project to proceed. The Sky Loop Committee will continue discussions
with the Taxi 2000 Corporation and monitoring its efforts to fund and develop a
full-scale prototype and demonstrator as well as the expanded organization to
carry this out. (See Sky Loop Project
Plans.)
