What is the Sky Loop Questionnaire ?

The Sky Loop Questionnaire is an ongoing marketing survey the Sky Loop Committee [SLC] is conducting via its presentations to local civic organizations, at events, and via this website [See the Sky Loop Questionnaire]. This un-scientific and informal survey is meant to give us some indication of interest in the Sky Loop system as well as generate feedback on possible fare cards, in particular the $50/month Monthly Sky Loop Card.

Some Interpretations of the Report

The latest Tabulation Report appears below. The SLC has collected 180 Questionnaires as of 3/12/2001 from 12 presentations or venues. Some of the audiences were composed mostly of downtown commuters, some were composed of mostly downtown residents, and others of suburban residents.

Question #1 is meant to distinguish between downtown commuters and everyone else. If the respondent answers #1 with Yes, they are a downtown commuter, then they are asked to answer Questions #2 thru #5, in order to determine interest in our proposed $50/month Monthly Sky Loop Card. If they answer No to #1, they are asked to skip down to Questions #6 and #7.

The projected income side of our Financial Plan is based primarily upon the attraction of the Sky Loop to daily commuters. By parking in lower-cost peripheral parking lots, commuters could save more each month on their parking costs than it costs for a $50/month Sky Loop Card with unlimited use 24 hours a day, saving them money while giving them greatly expanded access to our regional downtown. We have conservatively estimated in our financial plan that 20% of the 100,000 daily commuters to our downtown area will buy our $50 monthly Sky Loop Cards.

Less than half of the respondents work downtown - 41% (74 in Q1). 26% (19 in Q4) of the 74 downtown workers pay about $100 or more per month in parking. These are the respondents for whom the $50/month Sky Loop card would seem to make sense, in conjunction with parking in cheaper peripheral lots or garages. Surprisingly however, 41% (30 in Q5) of the 74 downtown workers responded that they would pay for the $50/month card. This lends credence to our estimate of 20% of downtown commuters who would buy the $50 card in our financial plan. The total of 35 downtown worker and non-downtown worker respondents who would purchase $50 Monthly Sky Loop cards (Q5) is 19% of the total 180 respondents.

More surprisingly perhaps, is that 42% of all respondents (76 in Q7-second part) said they would purchase a $15.00 10-Trip Good Anytime card. This seems to demonstrate that such a fare, not limited by a specific time period, would be very attractive to many people, perhaps mostly those that visit the regional downtown, and would help boost ridership. Meanwhile 6% (10 in Q7-first part) said they would buy the $6 Single Day Unlimited card.

In total 121 respondents, or 67% of the total 180, said they would purchase one type of card or another.
